Sam Haglund

The people in the office love coffee and often go to a nearby cafe together. I often get a vegemite pastry when we go. Group meeting to discuss any key updates or things to be aware of. It is also a time to learn something interesting, with another team member presenting something they’ve been working on. The responsibility of running the meeting cycles around weekly is a good way for me to practice my communication skills.

7.30 AM

Wake up and get ready for work.

8.00 AM

Get the train to Central Station.

8.30 AM

Arrive at work. The first thing I do is go through my emails, pin anything important, and write down any tasks for projects that I may have received while away. Since I currently only work two days, my arrival on the first day has a lot of emails to get through. If I get through those quickly, I will make a start on my tasks for the day.

10.45 AM

I get back into my work. I usually have a few projects I am working on and a list of tasks allocated to these projects. If I am low on things to do I can talk to my supervisor about what I can work on, or I can ask other colleagues in the office.

1.00 PM

Lunchtime in the communal kitchen/dining area.

2.00 PM

Back to working on tasks.

3.00 PM

Sometimes we will take a break to do “5-minutes-of-movement” where some of us will choose to get out of our seats and move around and/or stretch.

5.00 PM

Home time. This depends on how much work I have to get done, or how much time I have spent working in the day. A typical workday requires 7.5 hours of work which is all logged throughout the day.

5.30 PM

I might spend this time playing tennis with other Alluvium employees after work. Alternatively, I might go to trivia night or go out for dinner. Or usually, I’ll just get the light rail back home.

8.00 PM

A mix of relaxation and university work.

12.00 AM

Off to bed. Sleeping may come afterward.
